Dvd drive keeps ejecting discs

MY MacBook won't play DVDs. I put them in but after a few attempts it ejects them.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

You can try a cleaning disc but chances are your optical drive has failed.

Thanks v much. I tried both of those but with no joy. I will buy a cleaning disc tomorrow. Thanks again.
